The bureau, which will include a local office and dedicated reporters for Vietnam, will be the Channel NewsAsia’s 14th in Asia, and will allow the broadcaster to provide more up-to-date and comprehensive coverage from within the country.

“We have been covering Southeast Asia well for the past 15 years,” said Debra Soon, Managing Director for Channel NewsAsia. “It’s time to go even further and beef up our ability to cover the Indochina region even better.”

Established in 1999, Channel NewsAsia now broadcasts TV news and current affairs programming in 25 countries across Asia. It also operates an online portal with both written and video content. Its social media presence is strong, with over 360,000 Facebook likes and 200,000 followers on Twitter (@ChannelNewsAsia).

Based in Singapore, it reports on global developments, with a focus on Asian affairs from an Asian perspective. It has correspondents in many major Asian cities and key Western cities, including New York, London and Brussels. It produces content primarily in English, but also in Malay, Tamil and Chinese.
