Despite being the smallest ASEAN country, Brunei has the second highest GDP per capita and the second highest Human Development Index rank within ASEAN, both after Singapore. Its GDP per capita is the 4th highest in the world. The Sultanate´s wealth comes from abundant oil and gas reserves. Located on the island of Borneo, the country is highly dependent on trade. The main trade partners are ASEAN countries and China.
